Form an EcoTeam

Get involved in the Low Carbon Diet by first setting up an EcoTeam. Working in a team provides support and inspiration.

Think about like-minded people you would like in your EcoTeam. Approach people with your idea. Don't be afraid, research shows that most people are concerned about climate change, but not sure what they can do to help.

Let them know that we can make a difference and will save money on their electricity bills in the process.

Who's in an EcoTeam?

If you belong to an existing group, it's probably a good place to start. If you don't, start by thinking about the sort of people that may be interested in joining you.

Some suggestions:

  • sporting club
  • girl guide or scouts group
  • Landcare or catchment group
  • social club
  • community organisation or not-for-profit group
  • church community
  • fellow uni students
  • family
  • neighbours
  • friends
  • work colleagues

Size of EcoTeam

EcoTeams of between five and 10 households work well. Larger groups can be harder to manage and meetings may turn into talk fests. Striking a balance between effectiveness and sociability is the best way to go.

Meeting location

Find a place to meet. If you're planning on doing the Low Carbon Diet as part of a club or community organisation you may already have a meeting venue.

Some suggestions:

  • venues offered by your local council such as community halls, library or meeting rooms.
  • in the lunchroom at the office
  • at uni if you're a student
  • in the home of a member
  • in a park
