Have your first meeting
The Low Carbon Diet program is designed to be completed in around four meetings that take place every two weeks. But it’s up to you.
Usually a team initiator will run the meetings, using scripts located in the support section of the Low Carbon Diet manual.
At your first meeting you will calculate your footprint and select actions to reduce your carbon emissions.
Calculate your footprint using the carbon calculator
Team members will learn how to calculate your carbon footprint using our carbon calculator, and then create an action plan to reduce it.
Our carbon calculator helps you and your team calculate your current household CO2 emissions (your current carbon footprint).
To calculate your carbon footprint most accurately, you’ll need your last four electricity and gas bills.
While calculating your current carbon footprint, you'll be able to see what CO2 savings you are already making!
Select actions to reduce your carbon emissions by 2000 kgs
The Low Carbon Diet manual will provide you with a menu of actions. You can choose the actions that best suit your lifestyle.
You develop an action plan which adds up to 2000 kgs. You will then tick off these actions over the 30 days you are undertaking the program.
For example:
- If you don't have a heater, you wouldn't worry about the heating section of the Low Carbon Diet. You might instead focus on washing your clothes in cold water or turning off appliances at the wall.
- Your family might live in a place where you have to drive your car. So instead of focussing on public transport, you may commit to servicing your car regularly or to 'fuel efficient driving'.
- You may already be very proactive and be doing all you can in your household. You action plan may be targeted to encouraging people you know to go on the Low Carbon Diet.
